"The Sea Cliffs"

The goal in mind was to create a serene RPG level where minor quests and vendors would be found; some place mid-game where a break in the action would take place. I started the process with a silhouette approach, making small shape thumbnails and expanding on the ones I liked. Then I took it to a semi-finished color study and finally I constructed it in the UDK.
For every building in the level I constructed an interior space. I took a similar approach to designing the interiors starting with thumbnails. I drew my favorite one in isometric to help me flesh it out in editor while staying close to my vision.

"The Captain's House"

In school I had a growing passion for 19th century architecture and motifs. I though it would be fun to take a deathmatch game into a Queen Anne house with tons of expensive oddities and fancy pictures that would break and shatter in carnage. I also modeled, textured, and animated a gramophone that could be activated so that attenuated music would play in the level originating from that actor.
